Ms. Mergeche joined Guercio & Guercio, LLP as a partner, in January 2026. She brings extensive experience in litigation, special education law, and public school representation, with a background that includes public service, private practice and district counsel work. Her legal career began as prosecutor in the Bronx County District Attorney's Office, thereafter, she transitioned to the field of education law as a litigator for the New York City Department of Education General Counsel's Special Education Unit. Subsequently, she joined a boutique law firm, representing families of children with special needs in order to secure services or reimbursement for unilateral placements before returning to district representation.
Ms. Mergeche provides the firm's public-school clients with legal advice and representation on educational matters in order to facilitate the implementation of educational services in various areas of law including special education and student discipline. She represents school districts in proceedings before administrative agencies, state and federal courts and has served as an impartial investigator regarding claims of discrimination and harassment.
